The
Nature Conservancy Virginia Coast Reserve
These
block were made to facilitate "oyster spat" in areas
where the natural oyster reefs have been decimated due to
sedimentation, over harvesting, etc. In 2007, the Nature
Conservancy Virginia Coast Reserve created a successful "oysterball",
but experienced problems with mold. Today, a new system was
created with the attempt to duplicate that success with a block
type element made with a special mix including limestone aggregate
from Mundy Quarries. If this is successful, there are plans for
multiple deployments with the TNC (Nature Conservancy) in the
years to come. The ability to create these structures using a
block machine allows the TNC to produce many within a short period
of time.
